Class & Campus Life

Mentoring
Mentoring is a fundamental aspect of the Fusion program. We firmly believe that students achieve academically and emotionally when there is a personal connection to the school environment.  Your child's Lead Teacher provides this very important component to your child’s life at Fusion.

Each Fusion Academy student is assigned a Lead Teacher: a mentor who acts as a case manager/advocate for your child. The Lead is responsible for assisting your child in navigating his or her way through the school experience. Leads act as guides, counselors, friends, and confidantes for the students. The lead teacher also serves are your “portal” to your child’s life at Fusion. They will provide phone, email, and written communication to you regarding your child and his or her progress. All students have daily contact with their Leads at the conclusion of each school day, as they are required to be signed out of school by their Leads before leaving campus.

Social Interaction
Many parents may have concerns about their children not having opportunities for social interaction with other children at Fusion Academy because of the one-on-one structure of the school environment. However, students are encouraged to socialize with each other before, during, and after school hours. For example, during lunchtime, permission is given to students (on an individual basis) to leave campus and walk to any of the nearby restaurants to get their lunches. The kids enjoy this freedom very much, as it allows them to socialize with each other and create bonds with their fellow students.

We have found that most of our students develop strong friendships with each other that transcend grade levels, courses of instruction, or geographical areas—friendships based on open communication, honesty, and respect. We also support student socialization through offshoot programs including Camp Fusion, Fusion Band, volunteer opportunities, and weekly schoolwide meetings.

Community Meetings

The intimate nature of Fusion Academy allows teachers and students to interact much as a family would. As with all families, time together contributes to appropriate communication, open relationships, and honest connections. The entire Fusion Academy student body meets weekly as a group to discuss emergent issues, current events, school-related activities, or sometimes just to vent. We have found that these meetings allow the students a chance for their voices to be heard and their ideas to be shared in an environment of open acceptance.

Homework Café

The Homework Café is a multipurpose group area where students can complete their homework, eat lunch, undertake group art activities, have schoolwide meetings, enjoy conversation, and relax after their homework is finished. All students have Homework Café time scheduled into each schoolday, and they are not allowed to leave campus before all homework is completed.

PE

All students benefit from movement! We offer Physical Education as a group activity. The state-standard PE curriculum includes team sports, individual strength training, a beach-activity unit, and a golf unit.
